Review of Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) by Nasu N — 14 Apr 2017
Wow! This pacific war film really surprised me. It was so nice to see how the Japanese perceived the war and that was really special because I really connected with the Japanese with this film. I actually sympathized with them so much and no other war film broke my heart as much than this one, the acting was surprisingly good.
Clint Eastwood directed this with pure brutality but with sheer excellency. Compared to "Flags Of Our Fathers", "Letters From Iwo Jima" focused more on the topic of humanization, and why war is hell.
But what this film does uniquely is that it doesn't rely on the aspect of war to define the film, yes there is war, but it's so much more than that. It's an extremely emotional masterpiece.
