Review of Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) by Alec B — 12 Dec 2009
Plays well alongside the equally moving "Flags of our Fathers". It was an ambitious effort by Eastwood to view the battle from two perspectives and he succeeded pretty well. The best aspect of the film is that he manages to criticize the intense and overbearing military organization of the Japanese Empire while never condescending to the men who fought so desperately against the Americans.
It views them with honor and they deserve nothing less.
