I think Flags of our Fathers was the better film, but Eastwood's vision of telling the same story from two different perspectives is incredible.
Still: this is a fascinating look at both the battle, General Kuribayashi and Japan's concept of honor; a concept hard for us westerners to properly understand.
Not to mention what would have to be one of the finest soundtracks ever created for film.
