Review of Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) by Darian H — 02 May 2013
I love it, even more than Flags of Our Fathers. A perfect tragedy, both of individuals and of a people faced with odds just close enough to even to give a glimmer of hope. As the last stand of the Japanese forces becomes more and more dire, and a comeback less and less tenable, the disarray and despair becomes palpable, and the plight of the main characters is heart-wrenching and fascinating.
