Review of Lethal Weapon 3 (1992) by Shaun M — 27 Mar 2009
I'm not sure what happened after the last film. But the tone certainly changed starting with this one. Going from a rough, in your face type of approach, to something short of embarrassingly comedic.
I understand when a movie tries to go for slight comedic undertones. But I found this movie simply went a little to cavalier with its slapstick routine this time around.
From the opening bomb threat, to the various moments in-between. I simply found that this film had way too much filler and not enough interesting aspects to keep this movie on par with the first two.
The interesting thing about this movie is, there are parts that seem to be quite interesting (such as the subway shootout/desert debacle) near the end.
Now that I think about it, this movie almost feels like it was directed by 2 different people. As there are tones of action and with some type of subtle message that the Director Richard Donner has been known for in the past. But then those moments suddenly become saturated with nonsensical doses of comedy.
I think the saving graces of this film is the introduction of Rene Russo as Sgt. Lorna Cole, the larger action pieces near the end, and some dramatic moments shared between Mr. Glover and Mr. Gibson.
Other than those things, this film marks the beginning of the end of such a great franchise.
