Review of Lethal Weapon 2 (1989) by Hugh J — 06 Jan 2009
Now this is more like it. From the opening scene onward, I was fucking hooked. They kept all the good shit from the first movie and either improved on or fixed my problems with the first one. There's more action, funnier dialogue, memorable scenes ("they're not taking any more crap!" (classic)) and I actually kinda warmed up to the Murtaughs.
They weren't as necessary to the plot this time around and I completely dug that since it meant more screentime for Riggs. Joe Pesci was a nice addition. His character can get annoying at times but he fits in pretty well with Riggs and Murtaugh.
Just the right addition without taking any of the magic away from the original two. I also really dug Patsy Kensit, who not only has an adorable voice, but looked fucking gorgeous, which brings me to my favourite aspect of the movie: Riggs getting pussy.
But more than that, she actually served a purpose since they raised the stakes by using her death as even more motivation for Riggs to kick some ass. Suffice it to say, the villains were great and it was extremely satisfying to see them taken down, especially with Murtaugh's excellent one-liner at the end of it all.
I kinda dug the first one but this sequel seems to fit my interests more. I finally get why people love the 'Lethal Weapon' series. It's fucking awesome...
