Review of Lethal Weapon (1987) by Calvin D — 28 Nov 2010
The greatest buddy-cop movie ever, the inspiration for countless campy TV shows and movies. Screenwriter extraordinaire Shane Black composes one of the most ingenious screenplays for an action movie ever.
It holds everything an action film MUST have. The dialogue is perfectly witty, the storyline is deserving of copious amounts of violence. Richard Donner throws it all together in an incredibly entertaining ride.
The music deserves a very special mention, as the fantastic Michael Kamen unites the wailing guitar of Eric Clapton and the soulful saxaphone of David Sanborn into a poetic musical score. Riggs and Murtaugh are film icons due to the incredible performances from Gibson and Glover.
Incidentally, this is Mel Gibson's finest work. Debate it as much as you want, but his crazed eyes, charismatic smirk and sheer physical prowess are incomparable in this film.
