Review of Let the Bullets Fly (2010) by Dan B — 22 Oct 2011
Epic* Chinese quasi-Western with a charismatic lead performance, some great set pieces, a curiously callous thread of broad comedy**, and a surprisingly light-hearted turn from the iconic Chow-Yun Fat. If you like Eastern cinema it has much to recommend it, though some of the talky scenes drag a little, without clarifying the (at times) confusing plot, and there appears to be a lot of cultural commentary that is not easily grasped by non-Chinese audiences. (Well, me anyway.) Still, for the most part itâ(TM)s great fun.
(*overlong. **lots of shouting and slapping round the head.).
