Review of Let Me In (2010) by Levethian — 19 Feb 2011
Watched it to see if Matt Reeves took a fresh take on the original story.. So, why was this made? The story from both films still puzzles me. The vampire mythos include tales of people afflicted with a craving for blood, but those with some kind of moral compass (one like Chloe Moretz seems to demonstrate) keeps human cattle, or takes blood without killing.
If this film seeks to interrogate our moral approach towards vampires, killing everyone for blood seems the wrong way to go about it. Chloe is bad & must perish if she can't see some alternative to murder.
Great emotive sub-story, but our sympathy for the plight of the afflicted girl & lonely boy should evaporate when they decide that murder is okay.
