I have not seen the original, but this movie is as close as it gets to being perfect. The atmosphere is very creepy and the girl's true motives remain in question for most of the movie. There are plenty of vampire romance movies today, but most of them completely fail at properly displaying the true nature of a vampire who are after all supposed to be vicious predators.
This is one of the, if not the best from the genre.
