Less than zero starts slow and difficult, but once it gets past its arty fart direction and starts telling the story. it turns into something brilliant. the soundtrack is superb. maid up mostly of covers of old rock songs, and brilliant incidental score by Thomas Newman.

jaime gertz is a little OTT with the damsel in distress thing, but the rest of the cast are spot on. particualy Robert downey Jr., who ironically ended up mirroring allot of the things his character goes through.

but for me the stand out performance goes too James spader as the heartless drug dealer. less than zero can get a little lost in its late 80's style, but this could be an artistic choice to represent the whole "Yuppie movement" that was happening at the time.

its based on a novel by Bret easton Ellis, for those of you in the know he was the guy behind American pysco. if you read the book or seen the film you will be well aware how hard hitting this can be.

dark, disturbing and heartbreaking. I strongly recommend less than zero.
