Review of Lesbian Vampire Killers (2009) by Jason D — 30 Dec 2009
Lesbian Vampire Killers (foolishly shortened in uptight America as Vampire Killers) harks back to shades of Shaun of the Dead by introducing cheeky British humor and horror to the vampire genre as a cursed town's women become lesbian vampires on their 18th birthday.
This is a curse that two slacker buddies, Jimmy (Mathew Horne) and Fletch (James Corden) are unaware of when they embark on a hiking trip after having a rough day. Things look up for the two when they come across a van of 4 sexy students (led by super hot MyAnna Burning of Descent fame) who all convene at the local hotel where the party just starts to get going before everyone starts getting picked off one by one by the lesbian vampires.
Lots of hilarious moments abound in this fantastically humorous and entertaining romp. While it's certainly not Shaun of the Dead good, Lesbian Vampire Killers comes pretty damn close, delivering a lot of jokes and gags that manage to be executed well enough to stick and delight the viewer (at least the one's with a sense of humor).
All in all, this wound up being a very surprisingly good film. I only wish America would treat it better. Aside from the insulting name-change, the Americanized DVD cover is a straight rip-off of the Zombieland cover (same look and feel, same colored background) which honestly makes me feel very ashamed of the way this American film company treats overseas talent.
Aside from that hiccup, the movie is wonderful. Very funny and violent; an all-around good time.
