Review of Lesbian Vampire Killers (2009) by Sam L — 02 Jan 2010
Good but not great. Nor is it nearly as iconic as one would hope. Loser buddy comedy with comely women falling prey to the lesbian vampire queen. Played out more for laughs and yuks. Good for a laugh and could only score high during audience play. The solitary experience is wanting and downright suspect, dirty birds!
After the crusades a knight returns home to find out that his wife and the women of his village have fallen to the lure of the lesbian vampire queen. He fashions a sword with magic and before he can smite her she calls upon a curse of all the women in his village. When they turn 18 they will become lesbian vampires as well. When the blood of his last descendant and that of a virgin are joined together she will rise again. Que Jimmy McLaren. Dumped by his girlfriend he and his friend Fletch go on a hiking trip. Fate has brought them back to the village of his ancestor where they are to fight the lesbian vampires and save the village from this centuries long curse.
A bevy of hot chicks, short skirts and gooey vampire deaths. Played out for laughs mostly it tries very hard to be the next horror comedy out of England. It lacks the humanity of its predecessors and superiors, the most obvious being the offerings from wright/pegg/frost. It is nice to have aspirations but first time feature film writers Hupfield and Williams go for the laughs ALL the time. James Cordon and Mathew Horne do all right with the material. Cordon is the jokes go to guy and Horne looks lost.
And other than the kissing and shear robes the lesbian vampires were rather boring relegated to writhing around, slow dancing to 'lady in red'.
