Review of Les Misérables (2012) by Pete R — 05 Apr 2015
I was anticipating this movie to bold but it falls short due to Tom Hopper direction and pace he doesn't seem to figure it out. Anne Hathaway definitely is the centerpiece of the film more than anything and Hugh Jackman bless his soul did everything he could for this movie but its not enough, the film doesn't learn to settle down.
This movie was a really big let down for me I felt like Tom Hooper could have made something a lot bigger than they were advertising it and with the Academy Awards nominated like crazy I thought it was going to be something close to a masterpiece unfortunately there isn't enough in the film to really grab my attention nor really connected to the characters due to the misguided direction at Tom Hooper somehow forgotten to work with I just can't get over it.
I'm sure this movie was a lot better written on paper but in the actual premise on screen it doesn't pay out to the full extent. Overall it's too long not enough character development to really make me care when it comes to the side characters.
It's really overrated and I don't understand the fanbase behind it maybe the play is better and if I were to watch the play I might like it more than this but when it comes to just the movie alone it just does not deliver.
