Review of Les Misérables (2012) by Josh W — 15 Jan 2014
Gotta love the reviewer who complained about them singing every line, clearly this person never saw the musical. I'm not a professional movie critic(complainer) or a constant movie goer(one who feels the need to be cynical in everything) so I suppose my review only applies to the other 90% of the population who doesn't feel the need to attack everything they see. Having seen the play performed in London and having fallen in love with the score, I though this movie did an excellent job of playing to the masses(thats why hollywood does). Yes they cut some songs, and changed words in others, but that's what happens. While the singing isn't on par with the stage production(how can it be), the acting blows it away and made it even more captivating. I'm not a sappy person, but the songs hit me deeply, no matter how many times I hear them. Someone else complained about them performing the songs while recording, rather than prerecording and lip synching...not sure what the problem was here. They were performed beautifully, again, not my professional singers, but by actors, who clearly poured their hearts and souls into each and every one of them.
Granted, I'm not a professional movie attacker like the rest here, I'm just a regular person, but I thought this was an amazing adaptation of a very difficult to adapt play.
