Review of Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man (2006) by Andrew L — 09 Jul 2007
This was kind of a concert film mixed with a documentary. It was a tribute concert for Leonard Cohen, featuring Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Antony, U2, Nick Cave, Beth Orton, and a few others. They would show a performance and then interview Leonard Cohen and give a small background on a point in his life, and then it would cut away to the concert which would highlight a song from that period.
If you don't know who Leonard Cohen is, he's a singer/songwriter, most comparable to Bob Dylan. He's highly respected by other musicians and his songs have been covered by a wide range of artists.
The performances were really great, but I wish the documentary part was more in-depth. The interviews were good though. The only thing I didn't like was the ending performance of U2, was I'm pretty sure lip-sycnched and just didn't make sense after all of the other great live performances.
Overall though...cool concert documenty...well recommended.
