Review of Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man (2006) by Rob R — 16 Dec 2008
This is pretty much a long music video of several people performing covers of Cohen's songs, broken up with bits of boring talking. These segments are not all that enlightenting & consist primarily of Cohen patting himself on the back & navel-gazing & musicians offering worshipful platitudes. Don't expect to see U2 sing -- they don't, except as back-up at the end when Cohen sings one of his own songs. His performance pretty much confirmed that I had already thought: Cohen's songs are much improved when someone other than Cohen sings them. Well, he does admit that he's not much of a singer. Indeed.
If you're a Super Fan, watch all of it. If you're just a regular fan, skip through the talking parts & just watch the performances. With the exception of Nick Cave, who I thought sort of sucked, the performances are great. I think my favorite might have been Antony, though. I love his voice.
