Review of Léon: The Professional (1994) by Leri J — 12 Nov 2012
Starring Jean Reno as a professional hitman and alongside him, a 12 year old Natalie Portman (Mathilda) who stayed with him after her family were assassinated. Gary Oldman played the villain, a corrupt drug enforcement agent in New York who is also responsible in killing Mathilda's family.
The film started brightly but took a little hit in the middle. I have to admit that having a 12 year old living and partake in a hit-man's activities is a little hard for me to believe. Albeit the strong performances by Reno and a 12/13 year old-ish Portman, I cant fully digest the awkward situation, not to mention the cringe-worthy sexual tension between them. However, if you can look past the aforementioned nitpicks, this movie is very stylish in its own and the performances of the casts are top-notch.
