Review of Léon: The Professional (1994) by Kim B — 23 Aug 2018
At first glance, I really didn't want to like this film. The entire premise is awful morally and a bit unrealistic. However, I felt myself getting sucked into it's reality like Leon relationship with Matilda.
I began to feel for Leon as a pitiful, illiterate immigrant character and Matilda who didn't know better. The connection btw the 2 was powerful, altho strange and inappropriate. The action scenes particularly in the beginning and the end were so suspenseful they kept my attention the whole time.
The villain was played artfully, as was Matilda. All in all, I was thoroughly entertained and transported, altho it's a bit of a downer and very violent. One solace is that Matilda does finally get a sort of happy ending for herself.
