Review of Lenny (1974) by Nathan I — 05 Aug 2008
Dustin Hoffman encapsulates Lenny Bruce so well, it's frightening. The voice. The delivery. The mannerisms. The story. Honey. All of it was fantastic. I can't say enough good things about this movie. Lenny was a Jazz musician, in his own right, and the decision to have this film in black & white makes it so much more apropos.
The performance by Valerie Perrine was stellar. My favorite moment with her is when she's talking to the interviewer and offering to show him a picture she took of Lenny. You can see the love she has for Lenny. You know it's there. I can't believe she didn't win the Oscar. Hell, I can't believe of all the Oscar's they were nominated for they didn't get one! If it wasn't for that hack of a film The Godfather, Pt. 2... ;) .
See this movie. I promise you'll love it.
