Review of LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League (2015) by Rocki G — 02 Jul 2015
The Lego movies are an interesting batch. They're CG, so the Lego dynamic may seem pointless, but they have the creativity and sense of fun that make Legos great so they continue to succeed. In this entry, we get the Justice League, where every member is a greatly exaggerated version of themselves.
Superman is a lighthearted jock, Batman gives exposition-laden monologues and doesn't trust anyone, Green Lantern's a jock, Flash is impatient, Wonder Woman is a girly girl, and so-on. Some of these parodies work, some don't.
Wonder Woman's fashion-focussed dialogue feels almost offensive, and Batman's untrusting nature becomes irritating more than amusing. Still, it's hard not to like the movies goofy charm. It'll definitely appeal to kids more than adults, but an adult can still have fun with it.
Kids will laugh-out-loud, but adults will still chuckle. There is an unexpected amount of thought put into the story as well. Not as much as other DC films to be sure, but enough where you are at least invested in the story and want to see where it goes, and I appreciated seeing Lego-ized Darkseid and that he was still menacing as hell.
If you're willing to not take your heroes too seriously, it's silly fun.
