Review of Legends of the Fall (1994) by Mary C — 19 Jan 2014
The sweeping cinematographic vistas in the flick set in Montana (filmed in Canada) are as gorgeous as the lead actors in this wonderfully and beautifully told "love story" between family members.
Brad Pitt stuns the viewer with his good looks and portrayal of Tristan Ludlow, the wildly independent son of patriarch retired Col. William Ludlow, rivetingly played by Anthony Hopkins. The relationships between the Col.
Ludlow, his son Tristen and Tristen's two brothers Alfred (Aidan Quinn) and Samuel (Henry Thomas) is as engrossing as it is complicated. Add in Julia Ormond as the breathtaking Susannah Fincannon, Henry's fiance, and the relationships become not only poignant, but immensly real and heartwretching.
The score by composer James Horner supports each scene while easily swaying the viewers emotions in whichever direction the notes may be swinging. I loved it all.
