Review of Legend (2015) by Bethany N — 14 Sep 2015
When you have someone like Bryan Helgeland tackling the story of the Kray Twins you know you got something to look forward to.
When you find out that Tom Hardy has been cast as both Ronnie & Reggie you know your your in for a good time and where Spandau Ballet are concerned, they will defiantly be forgotten after this cracking duel performance!
Told through the eyes of Reggie's long suffering wife Frances Shea we see the rise and eventual fall of the East End Gangsters.
Helgeland captures the feel & Spirit of London in the 50's & 60's and Hardy easily deserves duel Oscar nominations for play both Ronnie & Reggie and the film knows how to control both the violence and comedy of Ronny's out of control temper.
All supporting roles are played great none more so then Emily Browning as Reggie's Lemon sherbet Loving Wife Frances though the film is not perfect.
Though minor flaws Hardy's Ronnie at times comes across a bit too comical to feel realistic next to Hardy's very realistic Reggie, and some violent scenes seem to be played for big laughs rather than tension which again feels wrong when weighed against the rest of the film but overall this is a really well made entertaining film that is well worth watching and is a fitting if you can cay it tribute to the legend that was the Kray Twins...
