Review of Legend (2015) by Bill M — 15 Sep 2015
Tom Hardy is pretty amazing, doing a top notch, grounded performance as Reggie Kray but going full Scarface for Ronnie, whom he plays like a violent cartoon character, it's a fascinating duel role, not always particularly well stitched together on film (especially with the sometimes dodgy as fuck face replacement cgi) but this dude is a proper actor of real heft and weight now, that is beyond argument.
Sadly this is a very basic biopic of the Kray twins, having the story told from Reggies wife Frances (played very well by the luminous elfin beauty Emily Browning) perspective is a new touch but this is just another gangster movie, with nothing new to really make it stand out and a feeling of being a cut price, eastend Goodfella's.
Disappointing.
