As a showcase for Tom Hardy this couldn't be bettered: his skill at delineating the two Kray twins is astonishing - one fast, good-looking, smooth; the other slow, lumbering, dark-voiced: both terrifyingly mercurial.
The extraordinary achievement of Brian Helgeland's overlong biopic is that the shocking and frequent violence is almost comic but never less than viscerally appalling. An excellent ensemble cast too.
