Review of Legend (2015) by Rayzor M — 17 Sep 2015
A slickly visualized but sub-Scorsese biopic on the Krays with strong standout performances by both Tom Hardys (obviously) and also Emily Browning, amongst the plethora of British thespians on show here.
There are some clever flourishes in the scripting of the film but perhaps it's the Hollywoodization of a British subject matter, or it's just that I don't buy the flowery and referential dialogue, but I never really get into the film.
An uneven experience then, where some scenes hit the mark (the one-shot introduction to Reggie and his club is an inspirational 'homage' to Goodfellas) but others (the line-up scene for example) feel like an unintentionally funny parody of Brit gangster flick.
