Review of Legend (2015) by Chuck R — 18 Sep 2015
This is a film of two halves. on the one hand is the engrossing central performance by Tom Hardy who quickly makes you forget the laws of physics as he occupies the screen with twice his usual magnetism and swagger.
On the other hand, is the muddled attempt to dig any deeper. a confused voiceover device; a shying away from the brutal assault of the only female character that would serve to portray at least one of these "Legends" as the true villains they were.
It is entertaining enough and Hardy really does shine, but in approaching the story like a cartoonish western (complete with matinee idol Reg) they miss the gritty mark and further deify the criminals.
