Review of Legend (2015) by David P — 20 Mar 2016
This is yet another victim of film advertisements undermining the tone of a movie for the sake of filling the seats. There are few things more annoying to me about the film industry. That's not to say the movie is without its flaws, however. It suffers from trying to cover too big of a story within its already long time frame and certainly could have used a lot more of a back story. The score is also a big issue in that its parodic tone is better fit for 'Who Framed Rodger Rabbit?' rather than a gangster film.
With that said, though, I can't help but say that I rather liked this movie. It is not so much a gangster story in the traditional sense so much as it is a story about how our lives are intimately woven together by our choices, the consequences of loyalty, and the complicated(and two-sided) nature of love.
And, of course, Tom Hardy is an absolute master. When will this guy get the credit he is due?
