Review of Legend (2015) by Dave K — 19 Feb 2016
Legend is a bit of a mixed bag of a film since it involved LA Confidential writer/director Brian Hegeland and a double performance from the always reliable Tom Hardy who seems to be on a real role of late, this film circles around Hardy's portrayal of the Kray twins and their exploits in the East End of London running various clubs and trying to run a reliable racket for money embezzlement for some people from the US before their differences and perchance for violence does them in.
Emily Browning does a decent turn as the delicate flower that ends up being consumed in marriage by Hardy's Reg, but the main reason to watch the film is Hardy is his dual role of the twins presenting two very distinct personalities with their own sets of twitches and idiosnychricies, and the occasional moment where the violence pops and the lighting/soundtrack provide for some engaging moments.
But what is equally frustrating is for whatever reason the tone is inconsistent as if Legend is trying to reach for higher heights and is having trouble getting there. You can tell the parts are there, but it was having a little trouble maintaining the altitude.
Worth a look nonetheless.
