Review of Legend (2015) by Steven W — 10 Sep 2015
I eagerly awaited the release of this film as I love gangster movies in general. I paid my £8-50 and took my seat in the cinema excited at the prospect of the upcoming movie. All I can say is , what a let down.
Tom Hardy's acting was spot on, but the way the story unfolded was clumsy ham fisted tripe. I grew up in the east end of London so knew the history of the Krays. I even met Scumbag Charlie Kray in 1995 through a friend of mine.
The film started slow and then seemed pick up speed and go so fast that it missed out huge swathes of Krays history. These were not minor things but really very important points in their history. Anyone hoping to learn about them is going to come away from the movie really not grasping anything of their lives.
It almost painted them as lovable rogues, cheek chappies whom dabbled a bit in breaking the law. I didn't come away thinking they were the east end scumbags they actually were. If you just want a couple of hours of almost light entertainment then this could be for you.
If on the other hand you want to learn about the depravity these couple of scumbags actually got up to then give this a miss. You won't learn much at all.
