Review of Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains the Same (1976) by Robert B — 01 Feb 2010
While this a good document of mid-70s Zeppelin, it could have been much better. Zeppelin was at the peak of their powers when they made this film, and I guess they thought they could do anything. While the fantasy scenes in this are absoluley ridiculous and pointless, some of the musical performances are surprisingly stiff.
Rock n Roll couldn't be more wooden if it tried. The half hour Dazed and Confused is hard for even the die-hards to sit throught. But they are some solid performances among the clutter, like Stairway and the title song.
The shots of John Bonham at home was pretty cool to see to. Ultimately not what it set out to be, but an interesting artifact of the era.
