Review of L'Eclisse (1962) by Joe G — 09 Mar 2011
I've been told you aren't supposed to feel good after watching L'Eclisse, and if that was the films goal, it certainly fulfilled it. This movie pissed me off. Vitti plays a robotic woman who wonder around aimlessly and shows very little concern for any of the events going around her.
You kind of want to hit her the whole time. I get that it's meant to show how terrible consumerism and modernity are, and how we have all become isolated because of these things. L'Eclisse is an intriguing movie, if not heavy handed with its dealing with those themes.
It's also excessively pretentious and excruciatingly boring to watch. Perhaps that makes me a mindless member of the idiotic masses, but whatever, it also makes me right.
