Review of Leaving Las Vegas (1995) by John A — 29 Feb 2012
In a great big world, with many, many people we're really not that different. We all have faults. In this movie, Cage's fault is a bad marriage, and alcohol. Shue's is in a different light. That's in the RED light district.
Now, when I saw this in the theater, I hated it. Turns out, I was wrong. This is a fabulous, wonderfully crafted piece of 'Americana'. The more I watch, the more I learn.
It's hard to appreciate certain aspects of this drama, unless you've lived it. It's like tasting fine wine with 'virgin lips'.
