Review of Leaving Las Vegas (1995) by Akhil A — 06 Dec 2012
There's no feel good hooker with the golden heart who meets Mr. Right and marries him & lives happily ever after here. It's just a study in the decay of a suicidal alcoholic and his sad troubled hooker girlfriend who try and find some piece in their painful lives even if it's just for a little while.
Excellent performance by both Nicholas Cage & Elisabeth Shue who is just mesmerizing in this role.
Leaving Las Vegas is a beautiful film in many ways crafted with tenderness and care all the while telling a story that seems anything but tender.
A very good film.
