Review of Leaves of Grass (2009) by Tea R — 06 Apr 2010
This film is brilliant. Mindblowingly good stuff here. Edward Norton is amazing, and off-beat. His work here is so original, and so detailed; in short he has never been better. Keri Russell gave another great performance, with some really lovely moments.
The scene when she first takes Norton "noodling" is so fantastic. This is probably the best film she's ever been a part of. Tim Blake Nelson gave us a really great film, and gave a wonderful performance himself.
His real brilliance however is shown in the screenplay here. It's just about perfect. It's many layered, and complex, and at it's core it deals with some of humanities most basic questions.
His dialogue is elegant, yet gritty (he manages to be both quirky and grounded here, making for a script that is honest, funny, and deeply touching). This is an incredible film, and one of the more thought provoking works of art to come out in recent years.
