Review of Leaves of Grass (2009) by Dara D — 11 Jan 2011
I must preface this review with the following stament: I Love Ed Norton!!! In this movie we get Ed Norton twice as he plays twin brothers. At one point I caught myself forgetting that it was just one actor playing both parts.
I believe that is a complement to the talent of the people involved. That said, this movie was not what I expected at all (a screwball stoner comedy), in fact Im sure it wasnt what anybody expected. It was all over the place.
It starts out as a comedy, that soons introduces drama, violence and it pretty much ends in...well I dont want to give it away. It was pretty clever how they used philosophy, literature and theology and intertwined it with drugs, family disfunction, and violence.
Overall I think it was good, but not for everyone. Personally the first few minutes of the film where the best. What Bill Kincaid (Ed Norton) said in his lecture has stuck with me and I believe it 100%.
He said "the balance needed to live a happy life is illusory".
