Review of Leave No Trace (2018) by Lamar T — 23 Jul 2018
Don't be fooled by the quiet. This movie isn't about what you see, but about what you know is there and if the forest is on fire you run. A daughter, food, warmth, another day. Is living in the bushes a form of solitary confinement or utopia with constraints? Depends on who's looking.
Debra Granik's meticulously crafted work defines the unseen space that contains this veteran's world. Thomasin McKenzie and Ben Foster give virtuoso a cappella performances. No need for more. No tricks, no props, no junk, just tradecraft.
