Review of Leatherheads (2008) by Bradley W — 31 Mar 2012
Entertaining from start to finish.
An outstanding cast, great old-timey ads, and humorous costumes made this one stand out.
It's labled a romantic comedy, but I have to disagree with that, while there was romance, it didn't feel like a romantic comedy. It just felt like a... Comedy. The focus on football, rules and regulations, and on field rivalry outweighed the romance between Clooney and Zellweger. While there was the rivalry between Clooney and Krasinski trying to get the girl, it just didn't feel fleshed out.
Clooney was great, his sharp wit and way of quick thinking is always entertaining. The first scene between him and Zellweger is noticeable, but the scene in the train with them in their beds was most notable. A great chemistry.
Renee Zellweger is great, and it's nice to see her in it than anyone else. If your a fan of hers you'll love this roll, if you're not, it won't convert you.
Johnny K. proves once again that he can slide through life with his boyish good looks. This isn't anything out of the ordinary for him, and that's sad. Every same-sounding part puts one more nail in his type-cast coffin.
Stephen Root, is great... He's such a loveable goof that you can't help smile when he's on screen.
