Review of Leatherface (2017) by Haiden C — 19 Oct 2017
This movie has been keeping us all on our toes and has left us all scratching our heads whether or not we'd actually get to enjoy it in theaters nationwide in the US.
With the film only making it to 9 U.S Theaters, I got the chance to see it at one of the selected theaters that I had to drive 5+ hours to get to. Thank you Screenland Tapcade Theater of Kansas City, MO.
Overall, the film was great. I'm glad it wasn't another loosely remake from the original. It was different and I'm really glad it linked to the Texas Chainsaw of 2013 and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre from 1974. I loved how they attempted to make the audience jump to conclusions ALOT. Along with, the rebuilt 1974 Sawyer farm house that is featured in the beginning and 3rd-act of the film.
But, I have a few complaints. 1: The film was too fast. I'm aware that they're releasing an Uncut dvd in December and I pray that the added footage is almost a half of an hour so we can see our characters develop slower than what they did in the Theatrical Cut. And 2: The casting choice for the character Nubbins was a POOR decision. From what we see in the 1974 film, which takes place afterwards this one, Nubbins is a zany, talkative person. But from what we saw in LEATHERFACE, he's just a quiet follower to his brother, Drayton, who Nubbins didn't respect at all in the 1974 film. 3: I wish they linked back to the 1974 film more than what we saw. From what I read in the script of LEATHERFACE, we were to see a young Sally and Frank Hardesty along with their dad, Ted, who is in the film. As well, it would've been cool to see Draytons truck! or the Hardesty place down the road! Or more of Leatherface's past! Or more of Grandpa!
Like I've said, I loved the film. I would love to own multiple Blu-Ray and Dvd Uncut copies! 8/10.
