Review of Le Week-End (2013) by Eyal D — 16 Mar 2014
The fragile state of a 30-year relationship, filled with mixed emotions, is at the heart of this intriguing character study, featuring exceptionally engaging performances by Broadbent and Duncan as a couple who may or may not still be in love.
There's also a delicious, scene-stealing Jeff Goldblum who shows up mid-way to delivers some great lines. Set against the spectacular backdrop of a romantic Paris, in a stark contrast LE WEEK-END, in which the English couple goes for an anniversary weekend, is a bittersweet dissection of long-term commitments that both trigger and foil animosity with acerbically sharp comic undertones.
And by the end, the bitter-sweetness is compounded by nostalgic feelings that the couple holds dearly to their romantic if practical hearts.
