Review of Le Samouraï (1967) by Will G — 19 Dec 2007
Jean-Pierre Melville's most critically-acclaimed film is also his most stylish, his best shot and his least satisfying. The narrative follows a mysterious loner named Jef (the ever-cool Alain Delon, who makes Brad Pitt look like a wannabe) as he eludes the police, just barely, after killing a man for no apparent reason.
I loved so many things about the film (its pacing, decor, characters, development, and so on), but the ending was a little bit of a let-down and ultimate meaning seemed to be lacking. Still, a wonderful film.
