Review of Le Havre (2011) by Gary P — 17 Oct 2011
An Aki Kaurismaki pastiche. Beautifully balanced pictures, warm characters, very strictly arranged scenes, felt a bit forced occasionally and the story a bit hollow. All of this is very characteristic for Kaurismaki in a good sense, but in a French milieu I had difficulties in reaching his magic.
A very good film but mostly safely recycling Kaurismaki trademarks. I hope he will get more daring on the rest of the supposed French trilogy.
