Review of Le Havre (2011) by Marat P — 23 Jan 2012
This is Finland's official Oscar entry in the best foreign language film category, and if this Finland's best movie, I am very thankful I don't live there. What a mess! This film is so odd, and uncomfortable.
The actors are so stiff, and seem to move without purpose. The camera-shots are uncomfortable and off-putting (rather than the usual "over-the shoulder" shot, people talk right into the camera in close-ups during conversations.
It feels so strange). The story is so simple and really goes nowhere. The time period feels like it takes place in the past (with rotary phones, record players, etc), then someone will pull out a cell phone or talk about modern day terroism, so it really is just confusing.
And worst of all, it is just boring. Most people will never hear of this movie, but if you ever get the chance to see it, don't.
