Review of Le Cercle Rouge (1970) by Greg N — 01 Feb 2008
The movie either makes you cringe in anger, makes you praise it like brown noser cause the director is is one of the greatest who ever lived, or love it cause it feels like something completely heartfelt on the part of director Jean-Pierre Melville.
I'm the last. Seriously, you watch this movie and it's as personal as anything by Truffaut making an Antoine Dionel movie. A man's soul is on display here and I'm hard pressed not to feel a certain kinship to it.
The only gangster film to have the sheer apocolyptic weight of Moby Dick.
