Review of Lazer Team (2016) by Landon G — 11 Feb 2016
Something about this movie... It was like I had seen it before even though I hadn't. Every Line I saw coming a mile ahead of time... it's just.. obvious comedy. Almost like it's an homage/spoof of movies gone past of an unlikely rag tag team of heroes, through luck, have to band together to save the planet....
They find an excuse early on to zonk Gavin out of his God-awful hick accent and simply speak in his natural voice (and thank Christ for that), yet they still all seem so unnatural... so many cringe-worthy bad acting moments, so many jokes that just fall flat, the special effects aren't particularly great (especially Colt's "super speed" lol), and worst of all is perhaps the choreography, or rather, lack there of in the final action sequence.
Their opponent has a helmet that makes him super smart, and super-speed boots, but he insists on standing 200 ft away taking pot shots at our incompetent heroes, allowing them a solid 5 minutes to fumble around and try to come up with a plan. Then, as with the rest of the movie, they're saved by a deus ex machina, which appears to be the order of the day. one of those 'just roll with it' kind of things. Sorry guys, but being self-aware doesn't give the movie a pass for simply being shoddily made. [although, I will say, to Gavin's credit, it did appear to be shot well].
I'm glad I didn't pay for this experience. I certainly don't feel like I've gained anything from it.
