Review of Lazer Team (2016) by Skylar J — 13 Feb 2016
I think Lazer Team has a very specific, goofy sense of humor that a lot of "top critics" didn't quite appreciate like the majority of the audience did. I thought that the plot was interesting, the characters were lovable and the fact that the main actors are all friends in real life showed and made their characters' relationships more believable! It has a very "corny-on-purpose" feel about it at times that reminds me of those tacky 90s alien movies in a very good way.
Some jokes come off slightly forced (i.e the taser scene), and others work so perfectly that you forget it wasn't a multi-million dollar hollywood screenplay (i.e the police car, gurney, and training scenes).
It manages to have a message of teamwork, family and friendship, while also seamlessly working in dick jokes and crude humor when appropriate. Overall, I think this is a great movie and the (heavily implied, but not confirmed) sequel will be greater than the first.
My advice would be to ignore the "tomatometer" and enjoy it for yourself, unbiased, and form your own opinion. :).
