Review of Lazer Team (2016) by Maksim B — 28 May 2016
Neither funny, nor original, Lazer Team is a spoofy sci-fi comedy with elements of decent satire, which never succeeds to attract viewers beyond the group of fanboys. Never taking itself seriously, the comedy has some striking similarities with Adam Sandler's Pixels (predominantly on the negative side), while it at least remains a sort of cooler delivery than Pixels.
When the decades-long search for extraterrestrial life delivers a result, nothing goes as planned and the existence of Earth and mankind will be determine by one-on-one battle between the best fighter from Earth and the one from a mysterious civilization. Unfortunately, things go awfully wrong when the costume meant for the Earth hero goes to the wrong hands of four total losers. From then on, the fate of the planet is in their hands and they have to save mankind. What follow is 60 minutes of moron fun, acting, pacing and generally some not that bad sci-fi references. Sadly, the most important ingredient for Matt Hullum's movie : good humor, simply is lost in a galaxy far far away from the studio where this flick was shot. This, actually, destroys all chances for someone to enjoy Lazer Team, making it almost an impossible task to survive until the final credits.
Avoid it. Watching it is a waste of time.
