Review of Lawrence of Arabia (1962) by Dan N — 13 Mar 2011
Haha, I just wanted to write it: the epic film of all epic films. Until I realized that RT already wrote it in its consensus. Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so.
Forget Gone With the Wind, The Last Emperor or Avatar! Lawrence of Arabia is the real deal!
Recently I've watched a couple of 60s films. And I have to say, it starts to become my favorite decade. I mean, take this film for example. It's so damn innovative. It's like nothing I've seen before (and by that I mean mostly films that came out afterwards). The 60s included major works from Sergio Leone, Psycho by Hitchcock, 2001, Night of the Living Dead, Easy Rider... damn, those films are among the best of the best.
Anyway, back to business: basically, I don't see any flaws in this film here. Unfortunately, it has the 2 problems I like to call "epic faults: first, it's too long. And starts to get boring once you are 2 hours in the film... secondly, I just don't understand why the Arabs all have to speak English? that's really bothering me and I consider this kind of americanization really a major problem (that is even found today).
Nevertheless, great film. It definitely made my Top 100...
