Review of Law of Desire (1987) by Michael O — 20 Mar 2010
Antonio Banderas was beyond great in Almdovar's first couple of films as wildly homoerotic men on murderous benders. Amidst a group of characters that either cant love, dont know how to love, and cant seem to find love; it's Banderas; killing away; completely true to his heart's desires.
This film takes camp and melodrama and spins it into magic moments that ring truly unique such as the loss of virginity, late night dinners, bizarre premiers, and amnesiac spells that blitzkrieg out of the nothingness for good measure.
