Review of Late Phases (2014) by Thehoard . — 16 Aug 2015
This movie, this is a good movie. Has the actor from Stake Land (another good movie), Ethan Embry and Tom Noonan. All great actors and actors I like watching. Wasn't sure what to expect from this film but heard some good things.
The film starts off great with a werewolf attack not fifteen minutes in. And it's fairly brutal, aggressive and really sets the tone for the rest of the film. There isn't another attack sequence til the last ten minutes or so but the great acting and tone and atmosphere really keep you engaged in between.
This film does take itself seriously which is good to see from a creature film by not peppering in too much dark humor or goofy stuff. And in my opinion isn't funny because it takes itself seriously.
The only thing that can look a bit funny are the werewolves. But the use of practical effects trumps that any day of the week. The acting is good but not over the top nor is the graphic imagery. I was surprised with the fact the main character had to fight a few werewolves instead of just one which was pretty cool.
I just wished that the battle with the main werewolf had been longer and had more tension and maybe just a bit more creepy atmosphere or something. Overall, for an indie flick that was thrown onto netflix, it's definitely worth a watch and better than most of the dogshit you'll see in theaters.
Watch it.
